In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
Shape each piece into a ball and poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes on each side in the boiling water.
Remove the bagels and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
