Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough 16 oz
  • 2 cups of mixed nuts walnuts, pistachios, almonds
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Chop the mixed nuts finely and mix them with ground cinnamon.
  • Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
  • Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  • Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  • Spread a thin layer of the nut mixture on top of the phyllo dough.
  • Repeat layering phyllo dough and nut mixture, ending with 8 layers of phyllo on top.
  • Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While baklava is baking, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla in a saucepan. Boil for 10 minutes.
  • Pour the syrup over the baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
