Carefully stir in the boiling water.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Once cooled, slice each cake in half horizontally to create four layers.
Place one layer on a serving plate, spread with whipped cream, and add cherry filling.
Repeat for the next layers, finishing with whipped cream on top and decorating with chocolate shavings and cherries.
