Measure out 1 cup of coarsely ground coffee.
In a large jar or pitcher, combine the coffee grounds with 4 cups of cold water.
Stir the mixture gently to ensure all coffee grounds are saturated.
Cover the jar with a lid or plastic wrap.
Let the mixture steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.
Prepare a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
Slowly pour the coffee mixture through the strainer to filter out the grounds.
Transfer the filtered cold brew to a clean jar or pitcher.
Serve the cold brew over ice, diluting with water or milk if desired.
Store any leftover cold brew in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
