Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Add butter or oil to the skillet.
Crack the egg into the skillet and season with salt and pepper.
Cook the egg to your desired doneness.
While the egg cooks, toast the sandwich bun or English muffin.
In the last minute of cooking, place the cheese on top of the egg to melt.
Add the cooked bacon or ham to the bun.
Carefully place the cooked egg with melted cheese on top of the meat.
Close the sandwich with the other half of the bun.
Serve immediately with fresh herbs or a side of fruit.
