Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  • Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  • Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut out shapes using cookie cutters and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are firm.
  • Allow cookies to cool before decorating with icing.
