Gather all ingredients: bread, cheese, and butter.
Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
Butter one side of each slice of bread.
Place one slice, butter-side down, on the skillet.
Layer cheese slices on top of the bread.
Cover with the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula.
Cook the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes.
Once both sides are crisp and cheese is melted, remove from heat and slice in half.
