Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or damaged berries.
In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
Add the cranberries to the boiling mixture.
Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes.
Stir occasionally, allowing the cranberries to burst.
Add orange zest, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
Continue to simmer for an additional 5 minutes, until thickened.
Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
Transfer to a serving dish and refrigerate until ready to serve.
