In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg until combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Using a spoon, drop batter into hot oil, frying in batches.
Fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.
Remove hush puppies with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
