Ingredients

  • 250 g kunafa pastry
  • 200 g unsalted cheese e.g., mozzarella or ricotta
  • 100 g butter melted
  • 200 g sugar
  • 250 ml water
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • Chopped pistachios for garnish
  • Food coloring optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Unravel the kunafa pastry and separate the strands.
  • Mix the melted butter with the kunafa pastry until well coated.
  • Spread half of the buttered kunafa at the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Layer the cheese evenly over the kunafa base.
  • Cover the cheese with the remaining kunafa strands.
  • Press down gently to ensure even cooking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Prepare the syrup by boiling sugar and water together; add rose water once dissolved.
  • Once baked, pour the syrup over the hot kunafa and garnish with chopped pistachios.
