Ingredients

  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Food coloring optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  • Add cream of tartar and continue beating while gradually adding sugar.
  • Beat until stiff peaks form and mixture is glossy.
  • Mix in vanilla extract and desired food coloring.
  • Spoon or pipe the meringue onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 90 minutes until dry and crisp.
  • Turn off the oven and let meringues cool completely.
