In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
Stir in the melted butter until well combined.
Mix in the baking soda and salt.
Add the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly.
Gradually fold in the flour until just combined (do not overmix).
If desired, add walnuts or chocolate chips for added flavor.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Bake for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
