Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt for topping
  • Melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour and salt to the mixture, stirring until combined.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a pot, bring 8 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  • Divide the risen dough into small pieces and roll each into a ball.
  • Boil each dough ball in the baking soda solution for about 30 seconds.
  • Remove and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
