Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Royal icing for decoration
  • Food coloring optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix well.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and combine until a dough forms.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut out shapes using cookie cutters and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.
